Math to Food
Math is like food, it keeps us full. Especially geometry. Look at a circle. Doesn’t it look like pie? Or shall I say, pi. Pi is 3.141592653589793238462643383279502...well, you get the point. Pi is a never ending decimal and it is a part of the equation you use to find the area and circumference of a circle. Ironically, pie is a circle shape.
Enough about pi, we need more math. Area and perimeter are another geometry subject. This also relates to food. For example, if a mac and cheese (Kraft©) company is shipping mac and cheese boxes (Again, Kraft©)by truck to a supermarket and the boxes are 3 inches by 3 inches by 6 inches. If the truck is 300 inches by 300 inches by 600 inches, how many boxes can the truck hold? (Answer on the bottom!)
Another shape is a cylinder. A cake is a cylinder and so is a can of soup. The equation you use to find the volume of a cylinder is π • r2 • h. This means you multiply 3.14 and the radius squared by the height. If a cake has a radius of 4 inches, and a height of 6 inches, then what is the volume of the cake?(Answer on bottom)
Geometry is related to food in a lot of different ways.

I thought it would be more boxes than 100. It must be a small truck. I would think the Kraft company would want to ship more than a hundred boxes in a truck to save on number of trips to the stores. What size truck would I need to ship 10,000 boxes?
