Pi Day (3.14)
The 2014 Pi Day was a huge success. On March 13, all of the Highlands 5th graders competed to memorize the most digits of pi. The math teachers decided to let 3 students compete on March 14. Those students were Kevin A., Emily J., and Firas K. On Friday those 3 students were called in the morning to write down how many digits they knew.
In the end, Kevin A. had memorized 190 digits. Emily J had memorized 133 digits. Firas K made a mistake at 13 so he ended up with 12 digits. So Kevin A. ended up being the 2014 Highlands Pi Day winner after memorizing 190 digits of pi! Kevin didn’t know he won until his teacher told him. So Kevin got the news that he could push a pie into Mr. Graber’s face!
So at 2:40pm, all of the 5th graders went down to the MPR. Kevin got to fill the tray with a bunch of whipped cream. Then, he got to recite all 190 ninety digits of pi in front of the grade. But he was so nervous he messed up at around 175 digits. Then he got to smash the pi into Mr. Graber’s face. And then everyone got to eat a piece of pie. The flavors to choose from were cherry, apple, pineapple, blueberry, and strawberry.
